Film Screenings

events- hartford-cinema-ct-university

At the end of every term, the Department has two screenings of student films: one for films made by students in the Introduction to Filmmaking course, and the other for student films produced in advanced filmmaking courses like Producing and Directing, Narrative Filmmaking and Animation. All of our students, faculty and staff come together at these events to support the impressive creative work of these aspiring filmmakers. The Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Alumni Advisory Board, Provost, President and other high-profile University leaders are invited to these events. These screenings are also open to all at the University and the local Hartford community, including local filmmakers and professionals in the arts. As you can see, we have a packed house at these screenings.

You can view some of the films shown at previous screenings here:

We’d be happy to send you a DVD of student films shown at the latest screening. Simply request a DVD from Jack Banks, the Department Chair of Cinema at jbanks@hartford.edu. You’ll be impressed with the creativity, originality and professional production standards of these films.

Upcoming screenings are posted on Unotes, the University newsletter at: http://www.hartford.edu/daily.

These events are also posted on the University’s calendar of events here: http://www.hartford.edu/calendar

To find out when the next screening will be, check back on this page or simply go the main site for the University of Hartford at http://www.hartford.edu and search for “Cinema Screening”

Our next screening of films will be held in May 2012. Check back for details.

Reel Film Fest 2014

The glamor! The excitement! The fun! The Reel Film Fest! An annual tradition of the University of Hartford’s Cinema Department is the Reel Film Festival, the student run festival that includes short films from University of Hartford Cinema students across the campus, and is even open to those not taking cinema classes. It’s a superb opportunity to get to see your hard work on the big screen, and it’s organized by the Reel FIlm Club, the student run organization and campus film club. We reserve a screening room at Spotlight Theatres Front Street in Hartford, and that’s where the magic happens. After carefully curating a slate of films for the competition, we all watch, with a panel of three guest judges there to contemplate who should win the Grand Jury Prize.

Thanks to The Defining Photo for the gorgeous photography!

Check out last year’s winner, “Digital You”, directed by Nick Mastrangelo!

Having Fun at Duck Pin Bowling!

Cinema students, faculty and staff also regularly get together for social events to relax, have fun and get to know each other better.

As several of the current students and alumni of the program report, the people in the program are like a close-knit family that support each other and develop close friendships.  At the end of every year, the department sponsors an event that recognizes the hard work and dedication of our students.

Some years we have had a dinner for graduating seniors at a local restaurant.  Last year, everyone got together for an evening of Duck Pin bowling and pizza, complements of the department.  As you can see, everyone had a great time and admired the impressive bowling skill and fashion sense of Professor Robert Lang.
