Tiffany Young – Junior

I truly appreciate the support from the faculty and staff who eventually grow to be your friends, the access to any equipment I need, and a good community of peers

DSCN0274 (2)I’ve always been one of those kids who didn’t know what she wanted to do with her life. I liked the idea of just enjoying what I had in front of me instead of worrying about the future. So coming into college, I had so much to explore.

During my first semester, due to my fear of public speaking (it’s pretty bad) I asked my professor if I could make a short documentary for the final project instead of a presentation and she approved. From that, I realized how much I enjoyed being behind the camera. I loved being in control of telling a story the way I wanted it, I loved making something small seem like it was the center of the Earth, I loved (and really hated) the endless hours in front of a computer screen clicking away, but what I loved most was seeing a final cut and being so proud of myself for something I created. So… sophomore year I became a cinema student.

I’ve learned to turn everything in front of me into inspiration. The cinema courses I have taken at the University of Hartford have given me the opportunity to work with different areas of film, in both production and studies. I truly appreciate the support from the faculty and staff who eventually grow to be your friends, the access to any equipment I need, a good community of peers, and having an experience that I wouldn’t have ever been able to find on my own. I can only wait to see what lies ahead of me… and I’m totally excited!
